How Volumetric Weight Is Calculated
Volumetric (or dimensional) weight estimates how much space a package occupies, so light but bulky items are not undercharged. It is calculated as:
Volumetric Weight = Volume ÷ Divisor
The billable weight is the larger of the actual weight and the volumetric weight.
Different Carriers Use Different Divisors
There is no single divisor that applies to every route. Common values include 5000 and 6000 for metric (cm/kg), and 166, 139 or 194 for imperial (in/lb).
A lower divisor increases the volumetric weight (and usually the cost). Always confirm the exact divisor and rate for your specific carrier and shipping line — the results here are an estimate, not a quote.
